  • The Colorado Association of Addiction Professionals is an association of concerned and passionate professionals (behavioral health specialists in substance misuse and addictive behavior disorders, addictionologists, preventionists, recovery support specialists, DUI providers, criminal justice professionals, students, trainees, interns, peers, addiction detox -treatment - recovery organizations) seeking excellence in the quality of services provided to those struggling in our communities with substance misuse and addictive behavior disorders and/or co-occurring mental health and physical health disorders.  CAAP accomplishes its mission through education, training, and advocacy.


  • Founded in 1984 as Colorado Addictions Counselors, CAAP formally affiliated with the National Association of Addiction Counselors (NAADAC) in 1993. NAADAC (with more than 10,000members worldwide) is the largest national membership and advocacy organization specifically focused on the needs  of addiction specialty professionals. NAADAC’s prominent efforts include the development of three national credentials for addiction counselors NCAC I, NCAC II and MAC-COD), the development of specialty certifications and endorsements (nicotine, adolescents, student assistance, clinical supervision, co-occurring, and peer recovery support), webinars and community meetings to educate the public on the need for treatment services, lobbying efforts in many branches of the government around parity and credentialing, and the development of a widely accepted Code of Ethics.
